The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) held its 2016 Legislative Summit in Chicago, Illinois this past week. Over 5,000 state legislators, staff, corporate, trade association, advocacy group and union attendees participated in over a hundred issue sessions, task force and committee meetings to discuss a wide range of state, local and federal policy issues impacting state government.
- NCSL legislative members approved over 55 policy directives and resolutions during the annual Business Meeting.
- Iowa Senator Mike Gronstal (D) ascended to the NCSL Presidency for 2016-2017. The Nominating Committee selected South Dakota Senator Deb Peters (R) as President-Elect to lead the organization in 2017-2018 and New Mexico Senator Michael Sanchez (D) as its Vice President.
The NCSL Capitol Forum will take place in December, when the Standing Committees will meet to focus on federal issues and their impact on the states.
