Statesider of the Week: Trevor Guthrie, M.P.S.

Legislative Issue Manager

Trevor serves as a Legislative Issue Manager working on K-12 and Higher Education. Trevor gained experience in state politics lobbying the California State Legislature for state financial aid reform. He then moved to DC, where he worked at a lobbying firm specializing in K-12 and Higher Education at both the state and federal level. Trevor has successfully assisted in securing millions of dollars to help at-risk high school students stay in school. He has also advocated for the expansion of Federal services for students with disabilities. Trevor earned his BA in Political Science from California State University and his master’s degree in Legislative Affairs from The George Washington University. In his free time, Trevor enjoys playing piano, producing music, and walking his roommate’s dog, Coco.


Where do you call home? I am from California but I have lived in DC for just over two years.

What was your first job? My first job was as a Starbuck barista.

What do you do to unwind? I unwind by doing yoga, playing sims, and playing the piano.

Who's your favorite musician? (okay I cannot name a favorite musician but currently on repeat): Billie Eilish, Beach House, Summer Walker, and Gregory Alan Isakov.

What's your favorite sport to watch (or play)? My favorite sport is volleyball. Catch me on the court with the DC Pride Volleyball League.

If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? If I could have an unlimited supply of anything it would be Money.

What three items would you bring if you were stranded on an island? Three items I would bring on an island are sunblock, a helicopter, and a piano.
